Perched high on the Kitulo Plateau at around 2,600 m in Tanzania’s southern highlands, Kitulo National Park spans approximately 413 km² and is Africa’s first national park established specifically to conserve its extraordinary floral diversity.

Locally known as Bustani ya Mungu, or “Garden of God”, it blooms with over 350 species of vascular plants, including around 45 endemic terrestrial orchids, earning botanists the nickname “Serengeti of Flowers”. Beyond its celebrated wildflowers, the park shelters rare montane forests like Livingstone and Ndumbi, where endangered species such as the Kipunji monkey and Abbott’s duiker thrive.

This unique wilderness supports a rich tapestry of life—from delicate butterflies, chameleons, and frogs to striking bird species like the endangered blue swallow and Denham’s bustard. Its undulating grasslands stretch between the Kipengere, Poroto, and Livingstone Mountains, crisscrossed by waterfalls, crater lakes, and rivers. This makes Kitulo a paradise not only for botanists and birders, but also for hikers and photography enthusiasts seeking a peaceful, off‑the‑grid experience.
